China’s Q1 IC output down 4.1%

Q1 semiconductor production in China fell 4.1%, reports China’s National Bureau of Statistics.

In March alone, production fell 5.1%.

Production was hit by Covid-induced lock-downs, most recently in Shanghai.

The Q1 fall was the largest since Q1 2019 when production fell 8.7%.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, IC output has been slowing since the middle of last year.

China has been trying to reduce its reliance on foreign semiconductor imports but, according to the China Semiconductor Industry Association, China imported €432 billion worth of chips last year.
