The US-based Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) and its Indian equivalent, the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), are forming a taskforce to strengthen collaboration between the two countries in the semiconductor ecosystem.

The specific goals of the task force include:

  • Making a “readiness assessment” regarding the semiconductor ecosystem in India.
  • Bringing together industry, government and academic stakeholders to identify near-term industry opportunities and develop longer-term complementary semiconductor ecosystems.
  • Provide recommendations on the opportunities and challenges to increase India’s role with the global semiconductor value chain, including semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Identifying and facilitating workforce development and exchange opportunities to benefit both countries.

“India is already a major hub for semiconductor research, chip design, and equipment engineering, but its future potential is even greater,” said John Neuffer, CEO of SIA in a statement. “This task force will help identify tangible ways to unlock this potential by increasing collaboration between the US and India within the global chip ecosystem.”

No timetable was given for the taskforce to produce its findings.
